The Chhattisgarhi Urban Credit Cooperative Society Maryadit was established by Founder Chairman Shri Nilchand Mahamalla, Vice-Chairman Shri Vipataram Mankar, and Directors Shri Sadaram Sarkha, Shri Nihali Mahamalla, Shri Somnath Ganpat Jail, Shri Shobharam Pela, Shri Tar Gaval, Shri Ishwari Saraya, and Smt. Baharinbai Sonboir.
The society was registered with 565 members and a share capital of 5,800 shares. Thus, the foundation of the institution was laid.
In the early years, the organization had to pass through many difficult phases to become stable and strong. Founder Chairman Shri Nilchand Mahamalla and his associates deeply reflected on how to uplift the economic condition of poor and underprivileged brothers and sisters. At that time, exploitation by moneylenders was increasing day by day, and it had become extremely difficult for poor laborers to escape from debt.
During the period of establishment, most people in the region were engaged in occupations such as handcart pulling, rickshaw driving, machine labor, grain markets, vegetable markets, and construction work. Due to a lack of financial support, families struggled to arrange funds for marriages, funeral ceremonies, childbirth rituals, and house construction. This financial hardship negatively affected children’s education and cultural upbringing.
Since most residents in the area were Chhattisgarhi-speaking, they were unable to obtain financial assistance from other banks or cooperative institutions. Keeping this social and economic backwardness in mind, the society was established.
Initially, the society provided financial assistance to members through loans ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, gradually progressing on the path of development. After five years, as reflected in the published progress reports, the first tenure was completed, and leadership changes took place through the election process.

During this tenure, a revolutionary idea emerged — to acquire land in the society’s own name. This dream was fulfilled by purchasing a 1,000 sq. ft. industrial plot, constructing a building, and shifting the office there.
Considering member convenience, loan limits were increased and financial facilities expanded. By the year 2000, the society had grown to 1,418 members with a share capital of ₹23,38,000, successfully completing the tenure.
